Auction Damage Report exists for one reason: too many people bid on salvage cars without understanding what they are actually buying.
We are an independent, education-first resource. We are not an auction house, an insurer, or a dealer, and we are not affiliated with Copart or IAA. That independence lets us tell buyers the unglamorous truth about damage instead of the optimistic version a seller would prefer. When a car deserves a large contingency or a hard pass, we say so, because our only stake in your decision is that it be an informed one.
Our guides come from a simple belief: a confident bid is a researched bid. When you can read a damage label, interrogate a photo, and estimate a realistic repair bill, you stop overpaying and start spotting the genuine deals. None of that requires insider access or expensive equipment — it requires a repeatable routine and the discipline to run it on every car, including the exciting ones.
Everything we publish is organized around the questions real buyers actually face at the moment of decision. What does this damage code imply beyond what it says? What does a deployed airbag do to the economics? Is this hail car the easy win it looks like, or is the roof the problem? Where does flood evidence hide after a detail job? We write the answer we would want to read five minutes before setting a maximum bid.
We keep the guidance honest about its limits, too. Reading a listing well reduces risk; it does not eliminate it. Photos are incomplete, damage fields are written quickly, and some problems only a lift or a teardown will reveal. Our guides tell you what you can conclude from a screen, what you cannot, and when the right answer is an in-person inspection or a walk-away.
